MALDI-TOF MS und MALDI TOF/TOF MS²

LC-MALDI-TOF-MS (Liquid-Chromatography-Matrix-Assisted-Laser-Desorption/Ionization–Time-Of-Flight-Mass-Spectrometry)
The samples are first separated by LC, which spots fractions on the MALDI Target Plate. The subsequent MALDI-TOF MS analysis serves to determine the molecular weight of proteins and peptides.

MALDI-TOF/TOF experiments can also serve to determine the amino acid sequence of the analyzed peptides by fragmentation analysis. The method is mainly used for peptide and protein identification (Peptide Mass Fingerprint). Aside from the short analytical times, MALDI-TOF-MS exhibits high sensitivity, excellent mass resolution and high mass precision.
