Quantitative amino acid analysis (qASA) is used to determine amino acid composition, as well as to determine protein or peptide content. The protein or peptide is hydrolyzed by hydrochloric acid. The amino acids released are then analyzed by ion exchange and on-line postcolumn derivatization. qASA may be used, for example, in determining the UV extinction coefficients of proteins or in the quality control of peptides.
