In SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis), proteins are separated by their molecular weights. After separation, the proteins are visualized by various dye techniques (e.g. silver staining). Proteins from individual bands can be identified by mass spectrometry after in-gel digestion or investigated for potential modifications (e.g. glycosylations).
