In comparison to HPLC, UPLC increases sensitivity and resolution. The analytes are transferred into the mass spectrometer (MS) using a very sensitive coupling technique, electrospray ionization (ESI).
Exact mass determinations can be performed, as well as fragmentation analyses, and complex pharmaceutical samples can be comprehensively analyzed.
